about

As we get a decade or so into the 21st century, it really seems that we, as a culture, are more and more interested in the fashions, literature and innovations that became current in the 19th century. Hollywood has grabbed ahold of the 1800's with both its hands, novelists are all took up with 'steampunk' as a genre, rock-and-roll bands take the stage in their hoopskirts and aviator googles... Recently I was asked to consider making some music for a ballet based on Edgar Allen Poe's story, The Tell Tale Heart. This album is a moody and luminous exploration of America, America as it assumed its self-proclaimed manifest destiny, as it wallowed in bloodshed during wars of expansion, colonialism and strife between brothers, and as it submitted to the steely grip of the Industrial Revolution.

On this album you will find: deep American roots music blended with ominous and shuddering electronic beats.
Enjoy lesser-known songs from composers like Stephen Foster, ballads of heartbreak, rollicking hoedowns, stunning old hymn tunes, and of course, here is Ian Moore reading Edgar Allen Poe's story, The Tell Tale Heart in its entirety, complete with musical underscoring.

Ian Moore Plays Fiddle West Nyack, New York

I feel like its my mission to represent the wild diversity of America's roots music; I lived for almost two decades down in the Blue Ridge mountains and now I've come back north, here in the Lower Hudson Valley, mixing it all up, fiddling fresh every day! ... more
