about

This album is a tribute to the first working band I was ever in -- Court Square -- an Irish band from Queens, NY. We played steadily at McGovern's, a pub on Skillman Avenue in Woodside, frequented primarily by old men steeped in Guinness stout and in reminiscences of the old country. Those codgers put us youngsters through our paces, rough at times but always appreciative of the good old songs and diddle-dee dyddle-dee fiddling tunes.

Find on this disc -- rip-roaring jigs and reels and even some Irish polkas. Also, mournful slow tunes and ballads, songs about pickpockets, horse-racing, and soldiering in far away lands.
